Taming the twin epidemics – Heart Disease and Diabetes
At the expo ICC is planning to conduct four planned seminars, 30 minutes each in a separate meeting room made available to ICC, on the subject of this twin epidemic, its reasons and consequences.
“We will discuss the evidence-based approach to identifying the risks faced by an individual based on results of specialized testing of emerging markers for Indians, person’s own and family history and life style, followed by culturally suitable evidence-based life style recommendations, management and coaching,” the statement said. “When practiced, this reduces the risks and improves the outcome complementing any ongoing medical treatment or intervention.”
Amit Akkad, Director of ICC, will be making these presentations.
ICC exhibit booths:
- At one of the booths, ICC volunteers will share information about ICC mission, its accomplishments and various initiatives as we have served our community for more than a decade. We will provide information about the need of preparing Health Care Proxy and Living Will and the tools to prepare such a valuable document. Visitors will have an opportunity to join as a member of the organization (no membership fees or dues) and also explore possibility to serve our community through ICC as a volunteer.
- At the other booth, ICC will inform and educate the visitors about the Twin Epidemics (Heart Disease and Diabetes) we face as Indians regardless of our age, gender or the country we live in!! In addition, we will share ways of assessing the risks by appropriate testing, evaluation of life style and family history. Our emphasis will be on Lifestyle changes to mitigate (minimize) the risks as a supplement to any ongoing medical treatment. We will share the details of specific Heart Health & Diabetes related seminars we plan to conduct at various forums. We will provide answers to the questions you may have and discuss myths regarding this serious health issue.
“Our core team members and volunteers will be available to answer any questions. Specific questions in regard to Twin Epidemics can be directed to our team members Amit Akkad, Yogesh Parikh or Girish Mehta,” the statement said.
We invite community members to attend this informative and educational Health Expo as well as participate in ICC special seminar and visit ICC booths.
