Rep. Khanna (D-CA) represents the California 17th Congressional District, which is located in the heart of Silicon Valley in the Southern area of the San Francisco Bay Area. It is the most high-tech district in the world. The district encompasses portions of both Santa Clara County and Alameda County including the cities of Fremont, Newark, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Santa Clara, North San Jose, and Milpitas.

Rep. Khanna is also passionate about Democratic Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders. He serves as national co-chair of Mr. Sander’s presidential campaign.

Rep. Khanna was first elected to Congress in the 2016 general election, and is one of only six members of Congress who does not accept PAC contributions. He served as a member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the Committee on the Budget, and the Committee on Armed Services in Congress. In Congress, he served as a strong voice for a progressive vision that promotes good jobs and wages for the 17th district and the United States of America.

In 2009, President Obama appointed Mr. Khanna to serve as Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce. After leaving the Commerce Department, he authored a book on the state of American manufacturing and how to keep it competitive in the global economy. Entrepreneurial Nation: Why Manufacturing is Still Key to America’s Future has won widespread praise for its strategies to keep the best companies, jobs, and opportunities in America.

Rep. Khanna’s commitment to public service was inspired early on by his grandfather, who told him stories about participating in Mahatma Gandhi’s independence movement in India and spending several years in jail for promoting human rights. His parents came to the United States from India. He was born in Philadelphia in 1976. Rep. Khanna graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in economics from the University of Chicago, and received a law degree from Yale University.
