Miriam George: A Passion to Protect Civil Rights

NEWTON, MA—Miriam George, a student of political science and Hispanic studies and now a student of law at University of Chicago School of Law, hopes to work as an attorney in the field of civil rights law in the future.

On Oct. 26, Ms. George will be honored with Youth Leadership Award at New England Choice Award at Westin Hotel in Waltham, MA. The awards gala will be attended by about 400 community leaders, businessmen, professionals, academics and philanthropists. New England Choice Awards gala is organized by INE MultiMedia in collaboration with INDIA New England News.

Ms. George is passionate about the protection of the civil rights and liberties of minority and immigrant groups, particularly in the realm of employment. In 2015, she worked for the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, traveling around the city of Boston to give presentations to minority groups about the options available to them through the law when they feel they have been discriminated against.

Ms. George attended Boston College where she studied political science and Hispanic studies. She has cultivated and strengthened her passion for civil rights and the fight against employment discrimination of minority groups.

She interned in Washington, D.C., at the Department of Labor and furthered her understanding of employment law, solidifying her already developed passion. As an RA in Walsh, member of Generation Citizen, Model UN, and the flute ensemble, Ms. George hopes to influence the younger members in the same ways older members influenced her.
