Combat Hand, Knee and Shoulder Disorders at the 5th Annual Health, Fitness & Wellness Expo

WALTHAM, MA- Hand, knee and shoulder disorders affect millions in the United States, with the numbers are rising every year. The 5th Annual Health, Fitness & Wellness Expo announced that two experts on hand, knee and shoulder disorders will speak at North America’s largest South Asian Health Expo on March 5 at Burlington Marriott Hotel in Burlington, MA about preventing and managing these disorders.

Dr. Dinesh Patel is a leading orthopedic surgeon who has been featured in US News and World Report, and has been a surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital for 40 years. He has established Asia’s first Arthroscopic Psychomotor Skills Lab at BJMC /Paraplegia center in Ahmadabad. Dr. Chaitanya Mudgal is a hand surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital and a Fellow in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University.

There are many disorders that may affect the hands, knee and shoulders, including arthritis, osteoarthritis (also known as “wear and tear” arthritis) and carpal tunnel syndrome. These disorders affect middle-aged and older people, and they affect millions of people every year. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), there are 52.5 million people diagnosed with some form of arthritis or joint disorder. This makes arthritis the leading cause of disability in US citizens for the last 15 years, and the numbers of diagnosed cases have grown from 30 percent in 2012 to 33 percent in 2015.

Dr. Dinesh Patel, MD

Dr. Patel, MD, an orthopedic surgeon for the last 40 years at Massachusetts General Hospital, is a faculty member at the Harvard Medical School.

He is a founding member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the International Association of Arthroscopy. He has received many awards internationally for his pioneering work in Arthroscopic surgery.

Mass General Hospital and Sports Medicine Leadership established The Dinesh G. Patel M.D. Arthroscopy Learning Laboratory in 2010. In 2001, Dr. Patel established Asia’s first Arthroscopic Psychomotor Skills Lab at BJMC /Paraplegia center in Ahmadabad. He has been featured in U.S. News and World reports as one of the best doctors in orthopedic surgery

Chaitanya S. Mudgal

Dr. Chaitanya Mudgal, MD

Dr. Mudgal is a hand surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital. He received his MBBS degree from Bombay University, India. He completed his orthopaedic residency in Bombay as well as one in Liverpool, UK, leading to his MS (Orth.) and MCh(Orth.) degrees.

Dr. Mudgal went on to complete an additional orthopaedic residency in the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program in Boston, and a Fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Mudgal’s clinical interests include a comprehensive array of hand and upper extremity disorders such as fractures, tendon and nerve injuries and paralytic disorders of the upper limb and arthritic conditions.

He is also interested in surgery of the upper limb in patients who have suffered strokes or traumatic head injuries.
