Dr. Sanjiv Chopra to Make Keynote Address at the Health Expo, to Talk About Dharma, Happiness and Living with Purpose

WALTHAM, MA—Dr. Sanjiv Chopra, Professor of Medicine, Faculty Dean of Continuing Medical Education at Harvard Medical School, author and a motivational speaker, will be the keynote speaker at the upcoming Health & Wellness Expo 2014 on April 20 at Burlington Marriott Hotel in Burlington, MA.

“I will talk about Dharma, Happiness and Living with Purpose. I will expound that these three tenets of our life and what we all aspire to are inextricably linked,” said Dr. Chopra. “I will discuss the research and on my own observations and reflection on the key elements that bring happiness in our lives.”

He said one of his favorite quotes is from the French philosopher Montaigne: “The Great and Glorious Masterpiece of Man is to Live with Purpose,” and he will elaborate on this and other key tenets of life, including: Learning Objectives for Dharma; Living with Purpose; and Happiness: Some Ruminations.

He said he will define Dharma (a word that encompasses morals, ethics, duty) and provide illustrative examples; elucidate the meanings or words: happiness, joy and bliss; eview some of the current research that relates to happiness; and how Living with purpose is something we should all aspire to.

Dr. Chopra, who leads the most robust academic Continuing Medical Education enterprise in the world, reaching out to 80,000 clinicians and 150 countries each year, added: “I will also discuss the central role of expressing Gratitude in creating Happiness.”

Dr. Chopra, who is a Senior Consultant in Hepatology at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, has more than 150 publications and seven books to his credit. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Hepatology Section of UpToDate, the most widely used electronic textbook in the world subscribed to by more than 850,000 physicians in 149 countries. Dr. Chopra’s book, “Dr. Chopra Says: Medical Facts and Myths Everyone Should Know,” co-authored with Dr. Alan Lotvin, was published in January of 2011. It has received wide acclaim and has been translated into multiple languages. The paperback version of this book, “Live Better, Live Longer. The New Studies That Reveal What’s Really Good and Bad for Your Health,” was published in March of 2012. His book, “Leadership by Example: The Ten Key Principles of all Great Leaders” was published by St. Martins Press in May of 2012. It has received singular advanced praise by many leaders in the United States and abroad. His brother Deepak and he have written a double memoir: “Brotherhood: Dharma, Destiny and the American Dream,” published May 21, 2013. It is a National Best Seller.

Dr. Chopra’s session will be moderated by Dr. Apurv Gupta, a former president and former trustee of the Indian Medical Association of New England, and a physician in Rhode Island.
